** As of April 2007, we no longer have a digital camera. Of course this means no photos until we get ourselves a new one (preferably with some type of underwater housing). We departed Mario's Marina on the Rio under fair skies and motored under the bridge and into the lake. Buzzing gently past Castillo San Felipe, we wiped sweat from our brows and pined excitedly for a swim. The lake is absolutely gorgeous. Mountains sprout from all horizons, the water rolls green and clear, and an occasional breeze sliding down from either of the Sierras allows for good sailing. We cannot imagine how it is possible to stay on the Rio and never experience Izabal; it was far too beautiful to miss.
